Where Neighbors
Become Friends

At People’s Social, we believe that life’s most memorable moments are created through meaningful connections and shared experiences. Our mission is to provide a warm and inviting space where friends, families, and neighbors can come together to unwind, engage in conversation, and build a sense of community.

We aim to be more than a beverage establishment; we are a place where every drink poured, and every smile shared adds to the tapestry of our small town. With carefully curated craft beers, select wines, and seasonal signature cocktails, we will elevate your social experiences. Join us in celebrating the art of socializing and fostering lasting connections, turning Neighbors into Friends.

Community Connection

We hope to aid in strengthening community bonds by providing a welcoming space where neighbors can gather, interact, and forge meaningful connections. Through inclusive events and initiatives, we aim to cultivate a sense of belonging and camaraderie among residents.

Social Engagement

We hope to promote social engagement and interaction through curated experiences that encourage dialogue, laughter, and shared moments. Whether it’s a casual meet-up with friends or a community event, we strive to create opportunities for people to come together and enjoy each other’s company.

Cultural Celebration

We aim to celebrate the diverse cultures and talents within our community by showcasing local artists, musicians, and artisans. Through cultural events, art installations, and live performances, we seek to foster appreciation for the rich tapestry of traditions and expressions that make our town unique.

Our Building’s History

“In 1868, a contractor from Nebraska named D.J. Silver constructed this building to house a bank that he and his son originally operated on 4th Street in Logansport. This new building at 414 S. 3rd St. was the first one in Logansport specifically built for a bank.

The following year, Silver sold the bank to a group of men who converted it to “The People’s Bank,” which closed a few years later.

Over the years, the building was used by a neighboring appliance dealer for storage, and by the Salvation Army, but fell into disrepair after standing vacant since the 1970s.

In the 1990s, the Cass County Historic Preservation Foundation received a Wabash Heritage Corridor Grant, with matching funds in the form of a loan from Indiana Landmarks. Through that partnership, major renovations were completed, as the building’s roof and interior floors had collapsed into the basement! Additional tuckpointing and repair was done to the front a few years later after a truck struck the building.

[At the time this article was written, the building was] home to The People’s Winery.

Brad & Stacie Angle purchased the property in spring of 2010 and began their renovations almost immediately, installing a new storefront and restoring the building’s original second floor windows. The interior renovation included wood floors, a tasting bar made of salvaged brick, and a new staircase to the second floor…”

The Todd Bank Building at 412 Third

In the early 2000s, a program, titled ‘Historic Architrecture in Logansport, Indiana A Walking Tour of Downtown‘, was written in partnership with Logan’s Landing, Indiana Main Street, and Ball State University. It was funded by a Historic Preservation Education Grant from Historic Landmarks of Indiana, the Indiana Humanities Council, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Known then as the Todd Bank Building at 412 Third Street, the (now People’s Social located at 414 South Third Street) building was featured on the program’s 6th page. It was the second building of 30 on the walking tour.

The article states, “Currently vacant, this handsome structure was erected by 1870. In the 1870’s, the Peoples Bank, one of many private banking institutions, occupied this structure. William H. Standley served as president of the venture, which lasted only four to five years before it became involved in litigation that led to its ultimate failure. Ralph Todd donated the building to the Cass County Historic Preservation Foundation in 1997 to insure the preservation of the structure for future generations.

This bank building is perhaps the best remaining example of the commercial Italianate style in Logansport. It stands out due to its elongated and round arched windows, linestone detailing, hip roof, and projecting eaves supported by brackets. The building also features a cast iron balconet on the second floor level and a limestone name plate.”

The Italianate Style

(1855-1880)

The program discussed above (‘Historic Architrecture in Logansport, Indiana A Walking Tour of Downtown‘) goes on to describe the Italianate Style in which the building was constructed. It shares that “The Italianate style began in residential architecture prior to the Civil War and became popular in commercial architecure in the 1870s and 1880s. This style usually has a projecting cornice supported by decorative brackets, round-arched windows capped by decorative stone or metal moldings, and round-arched cast-iron storefronts.

Thank You, Brad and Stacie Angle!

As we step into the vibrant space that is now home to People’s Social, we extend our sincere appreciation to the visionary owners of People’s Winery who transformed this historic building into the remarkable establishment it is today. Their commitment to restoration and renovation laid the foundation for the inviting atmosphere you now experience.

The echoes of their hard work resonate through every corner, creating a space where memories are made and stories unfold. We acknowledge the time, effort, and financial investment they poured into preserving the rich history of this structure, allowing us the privilege to continue the legacy.

At People’s Social, we are not just inheritors of a building; we are stewards of a narrative. We pay homage to the past owners for their passion and foresight, as it is because of them that we stand here today. Their legacy lives on in every gathering, celebration, and shared moment within these walls.

Join us in celebrating the roots that anchor us and the vision that drives us forward. Welcome to a space where the past intertwines gracefully with the present, creating an environment where community and connection flourish.
